How do I apply for a grant? Strategic Initiative:
Responsive Grants:
Community Outreach and Education Grants:
What are the sizes of your typical grants? Strategic Initiative: Grants range from $25,000 - $35,000, with an upper limit of $50,000.
Responsive Grants: Depending on the project, Responsive grants usually range from $5,000 to $10,000. However, some special projects are funded at $25,000.
Community Outreach and Education Grants: Most of these grants are in the range of $500 - $2,500.
Do you make multi-year grants? Individual grant awards are generally made for one year, but groups may reapply for continued support. Under special circumstances (e.g., “matching funding” or “exceptional timing” requirements), we will consider multi-year grants of up to 3 years.
What types of organizations and programs do you fund? We predominantly fund community-based, nonprofit organizations that are located in the neighborhoods they serve. We are particularly interested in small, new, and emerging organizations.
Where do you fund? We solely fund in the metropolitan Washington DC area, which consists of the District, Maryland (Prince George’s County and Montgomery County), and Northern Virginia.
What if my organization is a national organization working locally? On occasion we do fund national organizations that partner closely with local community-based organizations (CBOs). In these cases, we generally encourage the local CBOs to be the applicant.
